The principle of copyright protection is set out in article L. 111-1 of the CPI, which states that "the author of a work of the mind enjoys, by the sole fact of its creation, an exclusive incorporeal property right enforceable against all. This right comprises attributes of an intellectual and moral nature, as well as attributes of an economic nature". All these rights are set out in the first part of the French Intellectual Property Code (which codifies the laws of March 11, 1957, July 3, 1985, August 1, 2006, June 12, 2009 and October 28, 2009).
